A Small Look at Our HistoryA Small Look at Our History

Located on the site of an old seigneurie (landlordship), the hotel naturally owes its name to the former landlord Jean Godefroy de Lintôt.

Originating from Normandy, Jean Godefroy arrived in New France in 1626. He was first known as a fur trader living in the woods with the indians and as an interpreter under Champlain. After becoming a landlord, he settled in the Three Rivers area in about 1636 and saw to land clearing for cultivation and development of the region.

The history of sieur Godefroy and of New France is also called to mind by the names of several rooms and suites of the hotel. Hence, a splendid function and cocktail room bears the name Marie Leneuf, to honour the spouse of this renowned pioneer. The sophisticated ambiance of this room is enhanced by a typically art deco style.

Another meeting room was given the name Tabellion which refers to a public officer whose role was similar to that of a notary and who, as such, was called to draw up the wedding contract of Jean Godefroy and Marie Leneuf.

A third room is called after the Le Gardeur family who set foot in New France at the same time as the Leneuf family and who owned a piece of land next to that of Jean Godefroy.

Furthermore, a grand banquet hall which can accommodate up to 400 guests bears the name of Louisbourg, a fortress built in the early part of the eighteenth century on Cape Breton Island to protect the entrance of the Gulf of St.-Lawrence.

As for two spacious suites designated as "presidential," one is called after the Company of One Hundred Associates which was established by Cardinal Richelieu in 1627 for the purpose of developing colonial interests and trading, while the other is named de Lintôt which refers to the commune of Normandy, cradle of the Godefroy family.

Finally, even the room adjacent to the dining room allows us to travel back in time as it bears the name Nuit de St-Barnabé, to recall the historical night when the arrival of 45 new settlers in New France was announced.
